Poe's in the Westminster Cemetery in Baltimore- and then I found the layout of that church and cemetery was far more interesting than the man's grave itself; to save space, the new church was constructed on top of existing headstones! Back to the point, grave sites are so quiet and fascinating, so full of history and genealogy...the stones themselves are enough for me to spend an hour or two at even a smallish plot. The above photo was taken at St. Mary's Cemetery in Altoona, PA last week. Easily the hilliest cemetery I've ever visited! There's a few more photos at the end of my livejournal entry here.

I'm doing a landscape series based in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, OH for my landscape painting class, but might include one of the infamous 'specimen' stones at the TICO Mental Hospital cemetery if I can manage to find it.

comments
